The original Air Jordan 1 which matched the Chicago Bulls Uniforms was banned by the NBA because it did violate against the NBA Rules with its dark red upper. Michael Jordan had to pay a fine 5.000 Dollar each game for wearing the shoe which gave the shoe a little extra hype. Air Jordan 1 OG Colorway

The story behind the Air Jordan 1 is fairly obscure and full of elaborate small details. The legend keeps on going, year after year. In 1984, Michael Jordan was third overall pick during the NBA draft, a notorious moment from then onwards. From adidas to Converse, Jordan decided to settle down with Nike, long story short. In fact, the OG colourways of the Air Jordan 1, designed by Peter Moore, were debuted one year after, in 1985. The first one to release the Black/Red (aka Bred), follow by two White / Black – Red versions (aka Black Toe and Chicago, respectively). Further OG iterations were to release, such as the White/Black and the Black/Grey (aka Shadow). It did not stop there: the Air Jordan 1 was also made available in Black / Royal Blue (aka Royal) and White / Dark Powder Blue (aka UNC). In all honesty, it could go on, from the Natural Grey to Metallic variants, without forgetting about the J1 Low and the AJKO, debuted later in 1986. Nevertheless, 30 years have passed and the Air Jordan 1 still remains one of the most iconic silhouettes of all time.

Air Jordan 1 Shattered Backboard

Air Jordan 1 Shattered Backboard

If you think about it, the “Shattered Backboard” is not so different when comparing to original releases, apart from a great narrative, magnificent colourway, quality materials and of course, super limited quantities. It all started in the Summer of 1985, after Jordan’s first season with the Bulls where he participated in an exhibition game in Italy: Sporting Trieste colours (black, white and orange), his Air Jordan 1 “Chicago”, scoring 30 points, and of course that mighty dunk that smashed the backboard, literally. And there you have it. In 2015, Jordan Brand dignified such incident by mirroring the “Black Toe”, only replacing the red with orange and alternating the toebox from white to orange. The Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” was sold out instantly, becoming one of the most sought-after pairs for any sneaker aficionado.
