Karhu Aria

The underdog champion, Karhu (“bear” in Finnish), has over 100 years of history. Its DNA is rooted in sports from the very beginning since the early 1900s; and the runner Karhu Aria perfectly represents that ethos.

Originally from Helsinki, the Karhu brand was imagined in a small workshop back in 1916. Initially known for their production of javelins, skis and discuses, running-shoes were introduced shortly thereafter. Sported by the first “Flying Finn”, Hannes Kolehmainen, Karhu monopolized tracks around the world. Moreover, Paavo Nurmi achieved 9 Olympic gold medals in 1920. As time went on, the three-stripes stuck around and by the 1960s, the M-logo was created, standing for “Mestari”, meaning “champion”. In all its glory, the Karhu Aria stands for that exactly. This runner from 1995 is now considered a lifestyle silhouette, yet featuring technological specs such as a midsole carbon fibre fulcrum as well as a bootie-like upper, allowing for a snug fit and look.
